What the Night Takes

As night descends, I wonder what it will take me from this time. Dreams unfold into lucid nightmares where I’m rebuked for my crimes, both real and imagined. I am so drained, but I retain my anxious core as I push back sleep. Of course, I will lose. The question is how much?

No Friend of Mine

You’ve gone and lost the plot, clearly. I’m your friend here. I am on your side and yet you question me like I’m the one who did it. I’m always here to reassure you, to build you up and now you fly in all wild-eyed and full of accusations and I should just lay back and take it? No way. I’m leaving and you can forget me like you’ve forgotten all of the times I’ve bailed you out. Goodbye.

Wash

It wasn’t spiritual, but I was in awe. The pulsating beat, crescendo after crescendo, then the light. The wash and the feel of the lights. Oh, to experience that again.

How Do I Love?

Warmth, comfort and a feeling that anything was possible. The last one is out of reach, but the other ones add up to a love I thought I didn’t deserve.

I certainly didn’t expect it as I wasn’t looking for it. How to explain you? How to fit you into my cynic’s outlook and my carefully maintained routines? I don’t know the ‘how’ of it; only that I want it more than anything else.

Crackling

There is a crackling sound, over there, don’t you hear it? The cars scream by, but it’s still there. A consistent noise I can no longer run away from, then it fades out to silence with the dusk.

I have to know what it is. Why it follows me all day long

Time for Truth

You could call it a barrier
Or an opportunity.
A chance to learn more.
What’s on the other side?
Maybe you’ll find you aren’t the bore?
A chance to bring truth to the lie
And finally even the score.

Fired

Tired and then there is tired.
Today, I’ve nothing left.
No energy or desire.
I’m a pile of dry wood
Destined for the fire.
