It’s Best to Have No Expectations

To suddenly feel unloved
When you’ve known it for years:
Where do you go
In the middle of life
When you’ve lost your love?
There are no real promises-
Time reveals that truth,
Yet still we hope we won’t be all alone
In our darkest days.
What I never counted on was the loss
Of love being the day without light.
