Someone We Once Loved

I figured if I wasn’t in your birthday photo
It would be easier
When I was truly out of the picture,
Lost to the depths of despair
That swallowed me whole.
You will all go on
Because you must.
I’m time, I’ll be an ache
Or a sad reminder that passes
Quicker than a commercial break.
You’ll be on to the next thing,
The new day, the new crush
Will take hold.
I disappeared because I had to
And that is all.
