Cell

Dead links.
A sign of what’s to come.
When you’re drifting untethered
And your mind is undone.

It was all so simple
When you were young.
Days filled with wonder and joy,
But this life proves it doesn’t last very long.

Grown up
And beaten down.
Traumas and heartbreaks
That sink in and decide to stay around.

No fight left,
You can’t lift your eyes
Or learn new tricks.
There’s no way out, no survivor’s prize.

Cope and adapt,
The doctor advises you this time and next,
But what does he know.
You’ve tried all you can, given your best.

Hope slithers away
From your heart
You flail and scream
Unaware this is only the start.
