A Repeated Refrain

You keep putting me in these situations.
Situations nobody should be in.
No way out and no way to win.

Desperate people driven to extremes
By the rage in their heads.
Lingering trauma and bad luck besides.
No way out and no way to win.

A tumbling rock gathering up force
As it descends the mountain.
You’ll be crushed by the failures,
The expectations and the guilt.
No way out and no way to win.

No friend to lean on
Or prayer to soothe.
Life bears down,
Pressure bursting your heart.
You look to the sky, deaf and mute.
No way out and no way to win.
