Silent marauders came in the night
Leaving me the last one alive,
Gasping for air and dripping in fright.
I can’t describe them at all
And I can’t shake the bottomless dread
Or the sense that I’m set up for a fall.
A descent so deep
I may never return.
I cannot escape, not even in sleep.
You can’t outrun your destiny
Once you’ve convinced yourself of it.
You take what comes, whatever it will be.
