Will you change?
It’s either yes or no,
But what is it I need to change?
The intent is gigantic:
You want me to forget everything I know.
All that I am.
To become a better version. A new man.
The bits you don’t like,
That cause the friction,
Are the parts that help me understand.
Life is a brutal process
That I can seldom tolerate,
But I have a core
That keeps me alive, that keeps me going.
If I do what you ask, I’m all that I hate.
That’s no recipe for love.
Resentment and pain
Are destined to follow.
So just let me be; all broken and jagged.
A work in progress, not altogether sane.
