
I paced back and forth on the beach looking up the trail, expecting you to reappear. Hours went by and I swear I memorized the grains of sand. And still you didn’t come back. As the water laps around me, hope drifts away in the tidal pull. Where are you? Past the horizon, it seems. I focus my eyes to infinity and back and you are not there.
