“What wouldn’t you do?”
Your mantra made into a punchline
When it was time to show all of us
The cold edge that defines you.
Easy to spout
Platitudes and bold stances
When you’re certain that the
Sad and banal truth will never come out.
But we’re gathered here
In this dreadful moment you thought
Would never come.
Your friends need your strength; your help.
And it won’t ever come
Because you’re in a heap.
Stilled by a crushing fear.
